Route Overview

The Embarcadero is San Francisco’s premier flat running route. Following the waterfront promenade from Oracle Park (home of the SF Giants) north to Fisherman’s Wharf, this route is ideal for speed work, tempo runs, or an easy shake-out jog. The wide, paved path keeps you right along the bay with views of the Bay Bridge, Treasure Island, and Alcatraz.

Directions

  1. Start at Oracle Park (Willie Mays Plaza)
  2. Head north along the Embarcadero promenade
  3. Pass Rincon Park, the Ferry Building, and Exploratorium
  4. Continue past Pier 33 (Alcatraz ferries) and Pier 39
  5. Finish at Fisherman’s Wharf / Aquatic Park
  6. Return the same way or catch the F-Line streetcar back

Tips

  • The wide promenade is shared with cyclists — stay to the right
  • Water fountains available near the Ferry Building and Pier 39
  • The Ferry Building farmers market (Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays) can make the path crowded
  • Great for sunrise runs with views over the Bay Bridge
  • Public restrooms at the Ferry Building and Fisherman’s Wharf

Best Time to Run

Early morning for sunrise Bay Bridge views. Avoid Saturday mornings when the farmers market is running (or embrace the energy and weave through the crowds).
