This is the quintessential San Francisco run. Starting at Crissy Field’s east parking lot, you’ll warm up along the flat waterfront before climbing up to the Golden Gate Bridge. The pedestrian path on the east side of the bridge offers jaw-dropping views of Alcatraz, the city skyline, and the Marin Headlands.

Directions

  1. Start at Crissy Field East Beach parking lot
  2. Head west along Mason Street / Crissy Field promenade
  3. Turn right and follow signs to the Golden Gate Bridge pedestrian path
  4. Cross the bridge on the east sidewalk (open to pedestrians sunrise to sunset)
  5. Turnaround at Vista Point in Marin
  6. Return the same way back to Crissy Field

Tips

  • The bridge can be very windy — bring a light layer
  • East sidewalk is open to pedestrians during daylight hours; west sidewalk is for bikes
  • Arrive early on weekends to avoid crowds
  • Restrooms available at Crissy Field and Vista Point
  • The climb from Crissy Field to the bridge deck is about 200 feet — pace yourself

Best Time to Run

Early morning (before 8 AM) for the best chance of clear skies and fewer tourists. Sunset runs are gorgeous but crowded. Summer mornings often start foggy but clear by midday.
